Fire brigade: new cuts affect all regional departments

The new round of cuts that the ‘Veiligheidsregio’ (Safety region) has in store, will affects all fire departments in the region.

The ‘Eindhovens Dagblad’ (Eindhoven Newspaper) reported that, according to a committee member of the voluntary fire brigade, these economy measures will entail that the number of fire engines and tower waggons, needed to extinguish fires, will be cut in half. Moreover, half of the voluntary fire fighters will be laid off.

The ‘Veiligheidsregio’ recognizes that various austerity plans have been made, in which no part of the organization will be spared. Which plan will eventually be carried out and what cut-backs will be decided on, is going to be announced in May.
