More than 12 million euros to solve ghost queues

The department of Infrastructure and Environment, the province of North-Brabant and the Partnership SRE will invest more than 12 million euros to tackle traffic jams that are not really traffic jams, the so called ghost queues.

Research by TNO reveals that 40 per cent of all traffic jams on the A58 between Tilburg and Eindhoven are ghost queues. The unexpected braking behaviour of drivers creates a shock wave on the highway.

With the assistance of real time speed advice and information on current situations on the highway, a driver should be able to better anticipate other traffic. Ghost queues can then be prevented.
