Train station ‘Beukenlaan’ renamed ‘Strijp-S’

Train station ‘Beukenlaan’ (Beech Street) will be renamed ‘Station Strijp-S’. This decision was jointly taken by the municipality, ‘NS’ (National Railway) and railway manager ProRail.

Now that the development of Strijp-S has progressed this far, the station needs refurbishing in order to improve the safety and accessibility. The name change fits in with this. About 10 million euros in total will be invested. Lifts will be installed and the entrance and tunnel will get a new look.

Research carried out by NS shows that station Beukenlaan in its present form is among the most socially unsafe and unfriendly stations in the Netherlands. The facelift is initially aimed at making the station more user-friendly, by means of a number of easily implemented changes, the so-called Quick Wins.
