Prison sentence for biting car burglar with HIV

A 24-year-old car burglar from Eindhoven has been sentenced to 12 months in prison, six of which are conditionally.

The man is infected with HIV. Last June he tried to break into a car. When he tried to flee, he bit the owner of the car and stabbed him with a screwdriver. The owner and his son were trying to stop the burglar.

The court in Den Bosch ruled that the victim’s physical integrity had been compromised. After a test, the owner of the car was not infected with HIV, but the uncertainty made a deep impression.

Because the perpetrator has had previous convictions and because he did not see the severity of the harm he caused, he also has to pay a 2200 euro compensation to the victim.
