The Eindhoven cultural organizations are angry about the new plans that the municipality has for the sector.
Councillor Fiers wants to make the cultural sector more flexible. Organizations will be receiving less money in the long term. They will also have to show evidence of their success every year to be eligible for the grant amount for the following year.
The councillor wants to use the culture budget more for incidental projects. According to the culture organizations this will cause business organizational problems. They see the plan as a new round of austerity measures.
Through the new plan, the Council wants the sector to have more focus on cultural education and wants the current institutions to show more entrepreneurship.
The organizations are still assured of their structural grant until 2017. In two weeks, the City Council will discuss the proposed cultural plan.
