Local boy wins gold at World Dwarf Games

Gerard Smits from Eindhoven won three gold and one silver medal at the World Dwarf Games in Michigan last week.

Smits won the 50 meter backstroke, the 50 meter butterfly and the 50 meter breaststroke. He came second in the 50 meter freestyle. The man from Eindhoven works for ASML and is a swim coach for the student sports center at the TU/e. This was Smits first world championships. He had already participated in the European championships twice. Participants have to have a maximum height of 1.50m in order to compete in the World Dwarf Games.Gerard Smits is 1.42m tall.
