DigiD problems possibly caused by DDoS attack

There is currently limited telephone access to the Eindhoven municipality. The DigiD code is not available either.

‘We are working hard to solve the telephone problems’, says a municipality spokesman. It is unclear what causes the trouble. The DigiD-problems are nationwide. According to the NOS (National Dutch News), cyber criminals are bombarding the system with an extreme amount of data, causing the difficult access to DigiD. People cannot log in to public administration sites. This morning, the Ministry of the Interior said that the problems were due to a technical failure, but this turned out not to be the case. DigiD has been disrupted by a so-called DDoS attack several times this year already. The Ministry of the Interior stressed it was not hacked. The attackers are not in the system itself and cannot reach citizens’ data. It is unknown how long the problems with DigiD will last.Source:
