Support for extra cameras in city centre

Flexible video surveillance cameras will be installed in the city centre starting this summer. A large majority of the City Council supports mayor Van Gijzel’s plan to use cameras.

Two movable cameras will be installed. They should keep an eye on a group of Antilleans and Africans who cause nuisance. The flex cameras are supposed to move to areas where there is no surveillance at this point. Most political groups are convinced cameras help in the battle against crime and that they improve security. GroenLinks does not like the plan. The coalition party considers there are already enough cameras in the city and that privacy is an issue.
