Eindhoven student creates a movement app for smart phone

More exercise when it suits you. That will soon be possible with the movement app for your mobile telephone.
Yuzhong Lin from Eindhoven developed such an app called ‘Motivate’ and on Tuesday she defended her doctoral research at the Technical University Eindhoven (TU/e).

The app gives you about three to five messages per day. For example, ‘Get off one bus stop earlier and walk the rest of the way home’ or ‘After lunch with your colleagues, go together for a walk’. After every tip is given by the app, the user must indicate whether they will do so and if yes, indicate when. Afterwards the user is asked if they actually did follow through. Moreover, not that it’s unimportant, the app keeps track of the weather, so you won’t be sent out if it rains. The majority of the forty volunteer subjects said that after two weeks of testing, they felt they were more active, wanted to be more outdoors, and were more knowledgeable about active exercise.
