This coming summer, Eindhoven is the starting location for the biggest hitchhiking competition in the world. Registration for the competition begins today.
Hundreds of hitchhikers will be using their thumbs beginning 8 July, for the Route du Soleil 2013. This also marks the start of the first ever European Championship for hitchhiking. Participants must run the course as quickly as possible to Barcelona. In past years, according to the organisation, many Dutch nationals participated. Initiator Charles van den Bossche expects many Eindhoven students will participate. He expects about 1200 participants. The hitchhiking competition has been around a while. Since 2009, the start point was in the Belgium city of Gent. Participants can register here www.routedusoleil.org.
