Record turnover for VDL Group

Wednesday, 14 March 2012
EINDHOVEN – The VDL Group based in Eindhoven announced a record turnover of EUR 1.72 billion for 2011, as compared to the EUR 1.47 billion in 2010. This was announced by the manufacturer of buses and auto parts on Wednesday.

In 2012, VDL’s profits fell by EUR 10 million, to EUR 66 million. At the same time, the number of employees remained the same as the year before, with 7100 people. The VDL Group has commented that 2012 has begun well with a number of large bookings, and the company expects comparable sales and profit figures this year as with 2011. However, given the uncertain situation in Europe, VDL stays cautious. While most business units benefited from the rebound in the auto industry, VDL’s bus division experienced a difficult year in 2012. The fact that there were almost no orders for buses was attributed to the poor economic situation and cuts, mainly in the public transport sector in the Netherlands and Belgium.
